PostSubject: About this forum.   Mon Jan 07, 2008 7:24 pm

This forum is launched on the 7th of January 2008, as a response to nik's sensorship in the moderator group.

The main focus of this forum is preserving our right to free speech, and ventilating thoughts about the current trends in Discogs without risking to be banned or censored. It also serves to inform non-mods or ex-mods of how Discogs is being controlled behind the scenes.

As of the anounce of Discogs v4, it primarily serves to build a new, democratical and moderated database.

The forum consists out of four departments:
Public:
- About: general information about this forum, everyone (also guests) are allowed to post.
Private:
- Discogs: Discogs-related topics.
- DiscographyDB: discussions regarding the launch of DDB. Devided into 14 subforums.
- Chat: just about anything.

When creating a new account, please take the same username as on Discogs to avoid confusion.

I as admin promise not to censor anybody unless what is being said or posted is illegal by law.

I hope you will have a pleasant stay.

Maxime, better known as dmaxx.

Hi Manu_Chaman, first of all welcome on this forum.

The import of data and the legal aspects have been discussed in these two topics:
- Data input.
- Open Discographies

Cheers,
Maxime.

As a little bump on this thread, the forum has blossomed beyond the initial 4 sections, and many discussions range through various threads. To add to the plethora of information, we have a wiki, which is an attempt to catalog thoughts and ideas into more coherent groupings.

The wiki hasn't been cleaned up in a while, and could be re-created to provide a more clear summary of the progress so far.

At this moment, we are looking to get a database site started, possibly in a basic form. From there, we can figure out what is necessary, what is wanted, and what would be nice.
