We need to get more disillusioned oggers here

There are lots of discussions going on in the Discogs forums which are not being answered by Teo or Nik.
Maybe if people started leaving the site on mass they might take notice a bit more, after all a drop in web traffic wouldn't be good if Teo's plan are to sell it off.

A community site needs a community

Have all those on the Roll of Honour been contacted? Let's start with the mods, as this site is still in a very vague state, and it would benefit from focused discussions.

I agree with deejsasqui. Especially in the first set-up period, we have to add a lot of releases and iron out some problems in coding and guidelines. I think this can best be achieved with submitters who are willing to contribute AND have knowledge from the past.

Just to let you all know I've deleted (read Oggercided) my account at Discogs about half an hour ago
I've given this plenty of thought, and the fact that neither teo or nik listen to all of us who wanted to roll back, made my decision a bit easier
I really hope that here we all gonna find a real music database, and I'll keep an eye on how things will develop here...

The problem is: How much people apart from the oggercide-mods would join this site?

Normal users tend to keep track of the advancements here and will use the new DB if it seems good to them and if it will ever exist. They'll use it but without any contribution.

I think that's the way forums are working, isn't it?

Most coggers won't do anything until an alternative is online.

Getting more people here isn't really the issue anymore unless they know how to code the new site. More people wil join as soon as there's an alternative online!

I'm working on my "visions post" for the new site at the moment. If the majority of you think it's a good "vision" then "we" may start to code a new site soon.

I'll try to post all of my major ideas tonight to see if I have some support here. I don't want Discogs V3!!! I want something more!

I'm a normal user and once this new DB is set up it's bye bye to discogs and I'll use my spare time to resubmit my whole collection (which is now some 163 vinyls, some CD's and some legal mp3's).
I submitted some stuff to discogs again yesterday because I was a bit bored; it didn't feel right :/

here's another normal user who will close his Kissdogs account on the second this here is going to start its embryonic life...

I've noticed a huge change in the forums of Discogs just latley.There seem to be only about 10 people with brains left still trying to work things out.
Of the 10 or so that were previously helping me with subs, tracking records, and generally being friends only 1 is left.However I have to add that not all of them appear to be here.

Yeah, forum activity has plummeted. The "submission" view on the front page is constantly moving, as there are still people submitting things, but I don't think much voting is going on.

I've subbed stuff but only with the aim of generating a complete XLS file of my coll

I've stopped submitting stuff anything past a draft.

I've seen a couple of these "don't close your discogs account!" pleas from people who (as far as I can tell) aren't affected by the closing of an account one way or another. What's the motivation behind them?

(This is a serious question: I really don't understand why anyone would be passionate enough about a random stranger's account to publicly ask them not to close it. What am I missing?)

Yep, its a huge jump forward from the moribund place this forum was a couple of weeks back...thanks Nik, thanks Teo....

did anyone notice that the date of "most users online" gets updated now daily to the current date? it seems we finally have a user base that returns regularly. i find that exciting.

I was online at that moment when we had most users and I can say in was updated live.

Welcome.

A quick outline of what's going on just now as I know from when I first logged in it can seem a little daunting in the beginning.

This forum just now is being used as an area to discuse the various issues we have.
Everything from what we want from a new database, to what was wrong with the old (and a lot inbetween).

A steering comittee has just been set up in the previous days.
These 11 people were chosen from a poll.
Their job is to get the basis of this new site set down and you can view their disscussions by clicking on 'steering committee'.
We are trying to maintain an openess with this new site so transparency is of great importance.

You will find many polls and each one has it's own separate importance.Try to vote on them if you can but please take your time and show patience before making your choice.I know from experience it's easy to make a bold decision which is difficult then to take back.

The community is growing slowly by about 5-10 people a week and from what I've observed this seems to be at a level most people are content with.

im happy with the decision of a well-chosen staff, im even happier to see that some of the people with vast knowledge and strong sense of community that made discogs such a great place [that was] are here -i would say thanks to these people cause i learned alot from them
