| As Stormbringer resigned from the SC, due to differences in vision for the new site, azzurro seems like a likely replacement, as he was next on the list of candidates. Roll Call, as of 17 April 2008: asylum27 - UTC+8 azzurro - UTC+2 (DST) deejsasqui - UTC-8 (California, USA) dmaxx - UTC+2 hmvh - UTC+2 Kergillian - UTC-5 (Montreal, QC) lazlo_nibble - Oakland, CA? UTC -8little_alien - UTC+2 (DST) MR_E - east coast of the US, UTC -5 (" it's going to be May before I can really focus on this") pusha - UTC-8 (California, USA) quisquilia - UTC+2 = CEST Stormbringer - UTC+2 (Sweden) By timezone (east to west) lazlo_nibble - Oakland, CA? UTC -8asylum27 - UTC+8 azzurro - UTC+2 (DST) dmaxx - UTC+2 quisquilia - UTC+2 = CEST Stormbringer - UTC+2 (Sweden) hmvh - UTC+2 little_alien - UTC+2 (DST) Kergillian - UTC-5 (Montreal, QC) MR_E - UTC -5 (east coast of the US) deejsasqui - UTC-8 (California, USA) pusha - UTC-8 (California, USA) Notes: UTC = GMT (commonly). CET = UTC+1 ---[ original post ]------------------------------------- We haven't gotten a lot of discussion from all 11 members. MR_E is completing his semester soon, so this month is busy for him. We haven't heard from little_alien at all. hmvh asked about a teleconference to get us all going, but the first question is, when are you available? deejsasqui: Pacific Standard Time (PST), available evenings (post 6pm) and weekends (though I have two radio shows on Sunday, taking about 4 hours out of the day) There's a handy map at worldtimezone.com - it displays the current time all around the world, graphically. There is also the world clock, listing times by major city (that site has some more fun features, too).

| I am in the same time zone as Dee above.
My guess is Something on a Satruday would work well. We could time it so it is Am for us, and PM for the others.

| I work shifts and have no human sleeping pattern -- so I'm rather flexible/inflexible.
Since I've found a "free" teleconference service (don't ask which, I'm at work now and haven't got the name here) that costs only as much as the local/international call, for the sake of our Europeans, it'd be wise to have any chats in the GMT night time hours... afternoon in the US. Me is presently GMT+2.
Unless anyone has better ideas?

| I think it will be hard to gather everyone at the same time. I'm willing to join if enough instructions are given, but my available time is currently very limited due to my studies...
Timezone: CET+1 At home: depends, week: between 18.30 and 22.30 / weekend: between 12.00 and 22.30

| Timezone: GMT+1 Available in the weekends and during weekday evenings on rare occasions. Recently I I've barely had the time to keep up with the messages here, let alone respond and come up with good ideas Indeed, you still see me posting at "that other site", but that's the only forum I can have open at work because of its basic lay-out. | |

| I personally prefer a chat forum, because 1) people can use it at work, if they have a light work load and can load up some chat thing (there are plenty of 'net-based IRC chat programs, assuming we want to use IRC) and 2) because we can log the discussion and post for everyone to see, keeping transparency key. @ little_alien - perfectly fine, this site site should not take priority in anyone's life (yet =) @ pusha - I agree, Saturday looks good to me =) | |

I prefer chat as well. Never mentionned this before, but it's possible to attach a channel to this forum, mods etc. included.

| Chatbox is now open for everyone to try. It can be accessed by following the link at the bottom of the index page.
Commands available are:
/me: In the beginning of a sentence, this command will be replaced by your username (ex: /me eats a delicious pizza" will display "Nickname eats a delicious pizza") /exit: Disconnect from the Chatbox. You can also precise the reason that will be visible for all members connected (ex: /exit reason) /abs: Send a message noticing that you’re absent. You can add a reason that will be displayed in the message and visible by all members connected to the Chatbox (ex: /abs reason)
The channel seems to have some kind of archive function, which certainly is a plus. Negative point is that I can not connect groups to it => everyone can enter SC discussions. I have powers to kick and ban users + appoint other mods.
Feedback welcome. We can decide what to do with the chatbox later.

| Chat/IRC is fine but I really would be a happy person if we'd have a telco at some point as well... if not to determine how serious we are about this venture and to get to know each other a little and as a morale booster. Just a meet 'n greet.
How about this very Saturday, 22:00 GMT? Should be fine for most, not sure where asylum27 would be then, though.

| I can't say I like the idea of a teleconference as it's an old and slow way of communicating. Using a multichat function must be the best way because then it's possible for several people to post at the same time = talk at the same time, it will also be possible to leave the chat for a while and then come back and read afterwards what has been said and then get back into the discussion. The whole chat may also be saved which is impossible with a teleconference unless you actually record it in real time. The initial question was time zones and when we're online? 1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TimezonesUTC+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwich_Mean_Time Check the "red" on the map2) I do not have a fixed pattern that I can tell you about :-D Right now the clock is 03:40 and I should really get some sleep rather than being online ;-) | |

| I'm UTC-5 (Montreal, QC). Like hmvh I work shifts, so my schedule changes week to week. Saturdays are generally my best days, but this weekend is not so good as I'm in a pool tournament (the year-end team tournament for the league I'm in) and I won't know until Saturday what time my games are... | |

Ok, I'm here feeling vaguely human again after hell flights but I'll do my best to be available this weekend. I'm on Bali time..same as Tokyo and Singapore GMT +8. I'm still grappling with my workload and getting through the posts in the past week but hopefully by later tomorrow I'll be up and running.
